wait a sec i haven't finished (re-edited)
I can't just stick a pic about a concert I've been to and not write about it.
Well I have to say... it was bloody amazing. I had no idea Billie Joe Armstrong had such stage antics. But let me start from the beginning.
I finished uni before midday so when I got to Olympic Park it was about 12 (my friends and I had mosh pit tickets so we had to get there early). I waited for Kimmie then we got in line at about 12:30. There were people there already but not too many which was good. We had another friend, Moush that was supposed to find us later. She wouldn't skip her 1 hour lecture at which went from 3-4 (the doors were supposed to be opened at 5:30). Turns out when she got there it was cancelled, but though she left her uni shortly after 3 she didn't get to Olypmpic Park station till approx. 4:30. Heaven forbid what time she'd get there if she actually had the lecture.
In terms of us lining up, we ended up further back when people ran to another door but were told to go back to their original spots. So naturally people jumped the line and sat their arses where they felt like it. Whilst Kimmie and I are looking for the toilets everyone stands up so we lose Moush in the crowd and when trying to go back pricks wouldn't let us through. We said we had to get through and when the guy wouldn't budge my friend said it like it was, 'We've been here since twelve.' We had never seen the guy before so he probably just arrived an hour before, he definitely didn't have a reason to get self righteous over us.
The cloak room was another thing that confused me. The last time I went to the Superdome they used the outside cloakroom but this time it was inside. Having come straight from uni my friends and I had large bags with us so it was imperative we lost them before the surge. So I got out of the now standing-line and went to the security guys, they told me to go round the side. I wasn't supposed to have gotten passed them though, so as I went back outside people started getting searched by the security guys. I skipped the search by staying where I was. To go to the cloakroom I was supposed to wait till they started searching people. What can I say it was all badly organised, my friends walked right passed without getting searched aswell.
Simple Plan. What can I say I'm not a huge fan. Whenever I hear them on the radio or see them on TV I find them irritating and change the channel. But I can't insult them or hate them because I actually own their first album, I'd feel like such a hypocrite. As with most of my embarrassing rather bad cds there is a type of sentimental nostalgic sentiment towards them. I mean I liked them enough at the time to get it. I bought their cd about 3 years ago in Indonesia, I'm betting that was long before the teeny boppers at Green Day heard of them, unless they had cable back then. It certainly was quite some time before they started getting noticed by the mainstream market.
As a supporting act for Green Day most found the combination absurd as did my friend, who loathes them, read her comment made under the first Green Day pic. I didn't think it was so strange though, when you consider they are both bands that are doing really well in charts. Ofcourse those that find it absurd consider Green Day's long history in music. I think I would have been able to hate Simple Plan more if I wasn't surrounded by older guys abusing them. Oh you have to hear this! Some guys behind me were talking about how they weren't really Canadian, because they're French Canadian not English Canadian like Sum 41, now there's a group that's really Canadian they said. Fuck! The French were there first, why then are the English speaking Candians the 'real' Canadians if you ARE going to divide Canadians and classify them? What were they on about? Is making a judgement about their music too hard they need to make a moronic uneducated comment on their nationality. I never thought I'd hear Canadians being judged on how Canadian they were. As for their performance? I'm always curious to see what singers and bands I know are like at concerts, seeing them yourselves for your own eyes. I was definitely curious to get a good look at them. They seemed to be enjoying themselves and the huge audience despite the abuse that I'm certain they heard and saw from the people in front. Good on em'. I'm not sure which song, probably Perfect, the really irritating slow one, they asked people to get out their lighters. There was probably only a handful which got passed the security and when a guy yelled he didn't have his, Pierre told people to get out their phones. Now the sight of all the lit screens is definitely something to see. I looked around to see the walls of the Superdome covered in more lights than there are stars in a night sky. Truly amazing.
As for Green Day? They really were amazing. From what I remember they played everything from the new album, so many of their old songs that people were dying to hear, and more. What I mean by more is Shout and We are the Champions. Shout freaked out the older guys around me a bit (thinking that the band had lost the plot), but I loved it, and everyone could sing We are the Champions. One thing I noticed was that crowd participation is huge at a Green Day concert. You sing yourself hoarse following Billie Joe's leads.
This is to be continued but feel free to make a comment now.
